Elkhorn Photography Project
Mark Wortman:
Mark Wortman, with his wife Deb and four daughters, moved to Elkhorn in 1980 to teach and coach at Elkhorn High School. The family fell in love with the community as they followed Mark’s 41 year career of teaching history and coaching football for the Elkhorn Antlers. Still passionate about the school district, Mark was elected in 2022 to the Elkhorn Public Schools board of education. He has started the process of creating a coffee table book that is a celebration of the Elkhorn community and the Elkhorn Public Schools.
Project Description:
Elkhorn Public Schools – One of the premier school districts in the nation!
You can help create a lasting memento!
As a pillar of the Elkhorn community for over 155 years, the Elkhorn Public Schools have impacted the lives of literally thousands of people. From a one-room schoolhouse in 1869 to over twenty buildings and 11,000 students today, EPS is a symbol of our community’s pride in educating its children.
Over the years, many individuals and families sacrificed and committed their lives to making sure EPS provided an education we were all proud of. Wouldn’t it be inspirational to actually see the students, teachers, administrators, staff, and families who made this 155-year educational journey possible?
I would like to create a photo album documenting the past 155 years of the Elkhorn Public Schools because it would be an incredible way to tell our story! Currently, we don’t have such a book, but with your help, I believe we can produce one! The school district does have many photos as does the Elkhorn Historical Society, but thousands of unique and rare photos are in boxes in our closets, just waiting to see the light of day.
This is where YOU come in! We need your help!
1. Do you have school photos we could use for this project? Photos of students, teachers and staff, classrooms, buildings, activities, sporting events, or anything school related?
2. Do you know of anyone else (parents, grandparents, friends, etc.) who may have photos we could use in the project?
How to contribute:
- (Preferred method) Upload digital versions of photos – the originals or scans – to the linked DropBox.
- Email photos to the Foundation’s Alumni Relations coordinator – alumni@elkhornfoundation.org
- Schedule an appointment to stop by the Foundation to have your photos scanned (Maximum amount of 20 photos scanned at one time).
Every photo is a snapshot of time and tells a unique story in the life of EPS. Even though old photos may be rare, we would love to represent every generation in our photo album. THIS BOOK WILL BE A CELEBRATION OF THE ELKHORN COMMUNITY AND THE ELKHORN PUBLIC SCHOOLS!
