2017 EHS Scholarships
In 2017 the Foundation launched a new scholarship software system by WizeHive. Students were able to apply for scholarships online eliminating redundant tasks and paper applications. The deadline to submit scholarship applications was February 1st. Scholarship recipients will be recognized at the Foundation’s Scholarship Recognition Breakfast at Elkhorn High School on Wednesday, April 26th. Applicants will be mailed either an invitation to the Scholarship Recognition Breakfast or a regret letter the week of April 10th.

Scholarships Available for 2017 EHS Graduates:
AXA Advisors Scholarship– This scholarship will be awarded to two ambitious and goal oriented graduating seniors (one from Elkhorn High School and one from Elkhorn South High School) in recognition of their school and community accomplishments. Applicants must rank in the top 20% of their class, and they must demonstrate respect for self and community by their ability to maintain drug-free and alcohol free. One letter of recommendation from a teacher, pastor, adult mentor or employer is required.
Barbara McLaughlin Memorial Scholarship – This $4,000 scholarship honors the positive spirit and active community involvement of Mrs. McLaughlin by recognizing a graduating senior from an Elkhorn Public High School who demonstrates positive and active participation in school and community activities. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. The scholarship recipient must attend a four-year college or university in Nebraska in order to receive the scholarship.
Carl Riley Brodersen Memorial Baseball Scholarship – Team Selected/No Application – This $10,000 award honors Carl Riley Brodersen’s passion for baseball. The award recipient is selected by a vote of the Elkhorn High School varsity baseball players as the most admired athlete both on and off the field.
Carl Riley Brodersen Memorial Football Scholarship – Team Selected/No Application – This $10,000 award honors Carl Riley Brodersen’s passion for football. The award recipient is selected by a vote of the Elkhorn High School varsity football players as the most admired athlete both on and off the field.
Carl Riley Brodersen Memorial Softball Scholarship – Team Selected/No Application – This $10,000 award honors Carl Riley Brodersen’s passion for sports. The award recipient is selected by a vote of the Elkhorn High School varsity softball players as the most admired athlete both on and off the field.
Carol S. Schlosser Memorial Scholarship – This $8,000 scholarship honors the contributions of Mrs. Schlosser to family and community by recognizing a graduating senior from Elkhorn High School who demonstrates strong academic performance, successful leadership capabilities and active involvement in community and school activities. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
Class of 1961 Memorial Scholarship – This $1,200 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from Elkhorn High School who plans to major in one of the construction sciences at a trade or technical school or college.
Dennis Curtis Scholarship – This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from an Elkhorn Public High School who has plans to attend one of the following educational institutions: Peru State College, Metro Community College or Iowa Western Community College. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Two letters of recommendation from a non-family member are required.
Don Nordlund Scholarship – This $1,000 scholarship recognizes a graduating senior from an Elkhorn Public High School who graduated from Skyline Elementary and has demonstrated leadership and sensitivity to others. Volunteer work demonstrating sensitivity to others’ needs will be a focus. Applicants must have graduated from Skyline Elementary and must have attended Skyline for a minimum of three years. Grade point average and class rank, although important, will not be primary considerations.
Don Peterson Family Scholarship – The Don Petersen Family recognizes two or more students who graduated from either Hillrise Elementary or Manchester Elementary who exemplify good citizenship through active involvement in school and community and solid academic achievement. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.75. This scholarship is valued at $250.
Dr. Harriet Bluford Memorial Scholarship – This $500 scholarship honors Dr. Bluford’s life-long passion for education by recognizing a student graduating from an Elkhorn Public High School who displays positive participation in school and/or community activities and plans to continue his/her education in the field of Education. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.5.
Edward W. Ohm Memorial Scholarship – This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a deserving Elkhorn High School graduating senior who best exemplifies Edward W. Ohm’s love for both education and music. Scholarship applicants must have a 3.2 GPA and have participated in a music ensemble in high school and must participate in a vocal or instrumental ensemble while in college. Two letters of recommendation are required; one letter of recommendation from a classroom teacher, and a second letter of recommendation from a music teacher.
Elkhorn Girls Softball Association (EGSA) Scholarship – This $500 scholarship will be awarded to four senior female athletes (two from Elkhorn High School and two from Elkhorn South High School) who’s participation in Elkhorn Girls Slammer Select or Recreational Softball enabled them to “Hit a Home Run” both on the field and in the community. Applicants must have participated in the Slammer Softball program for a total of 5 years (may include high school softball). One letter of recommendation from an EGSA Coach, EGSA Board Member, or an Elkhorn High or Elkhorn South High School Coach is required.
Elkhorn High School Band Booster Scholarship – The Elkhorn High School Band Booster Scholarship will award a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior in recognition of his/her support and contributions to the EHS Band. Scholarship applicants must have a 3.0 GPA, are a current EHS band member, and have been a band member for a minimum of three years. This scholarship will be awarded based on merit, not financial need. Emphasis will be placed on the applicant’s demonstration of being a positive role model and dedication to band related activities. One letter of recommendation from a teacher (excluding EHS band staff), employer or unrelated adult who is familiar with the applicant’s character is required.
Elkhorn Historical Society Scholarship – This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to two graduating seniors (one from Elkhorn High School and one from Elkhorn South High School) who are from Elkhorn families who have been active in the community for many years. Applicants must have attended Elkhorn Public Schools from kindergarten through high school (13 years) and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Elkhorn Lawn Care Entrepreneur Scholarship – This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to two graduating seniors (one from Elkhorn High School and one from Elkhorn South High School) who demonstrate active involvement in high school and community activities, good character and leadership potential and have plans to further their education in a Business or Entrepreneurship field of study. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. One letter of recommendation from a non-family member is required.
Elkhorn Lions Club – Arnold Fencl Scholarship – This $750 scholarship will be awarded to two graduating seniors (one from Elkhorn High School and one from Elkhorn South High School) who have plans to attend a community college, vocational, technical or nursing school.
Elkhorn Middle School (EMS) Booster Club Scholarship – This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student who attended and graduated from EMS and exemplifies solid academic performance and involvement in community and school activities.
Elkhorn Ridge Middle School (ERMS) Booster Club Scholarship – This $500 scholarship will be awarded to one male and one female student who attended and graduated from ERMS and exemplify solid academic performance and involvement in community and school activities.
Elkhorn Valley View Middle School (EVVMS) Booster Club Scholarship – This $500 scholarship will be awarded to one male and one female student who attended and graduated from EVVMS and exemplify solid academic performance and involvement in community and school activities.
Elkhorn Youth Sports Association Attack Basketball Scholarship – This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a senior athlete who currently plays on either the Elkhorn High School or Elkhorn South High School boys’ basketball team. The scholarship will be awarded to an athlete who has demonstrated good character and leadership throughout his playing career. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.25. One letter of recommendation from their high school basketball coach is required. (Applicants are not required to have played for the Elkhorn Attack Basketball program).
Elkhorn Youth Sports Association Elite Basketball Scholarship – This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a senior athlete who currently plays on either the Elkhorn High School or Elkhorn South High School girls’ basketball team. The scholarship will be awarded to an athlete who has demonstrated good character and leadership throughout her playing career. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.25. One letter of recommendation from their high school basketball coach is required. (Applicants are not required to have played for the Elkhorn Elite Basketball program).
Elkhorn Volunteer Rescue Scholarship – This scholarship will be awarded to two graduating seniors (one from Elkhorn High School and one from Elkhorn South High School) who have plans to pursue a career in fire fighting, emergency medicine or other health/medical related professions. The scholarship is valued at $2,500/year for a maximum of four years.
Elkhorn/Waterloo Area American Legion Post #211 Scholarship – This $4,000 scholarship recognizes a student graduating from an Elkhorn Public High School who is involved in school and community activities and exemplifies a patriotic spirit. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Fire Ridge Elementary PTO Scholarship – This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a male and female graduating senior of an Elkhorn Public High School who graduated fifth grade from Fire Ridge Elementary and exemplifies academic success, good citizenship and active involvement in community and school activities.
Gina Cyza Memorial Scholarship – This $1,000 scholarship honors Gina Cyza, a Westridge Elementary School kindergarten teacher, who had a passion for teaching and loved her family, her friends and her students. This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from an Elkhorn Public High School who plans to major in the field of Elementary Education. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.25. Two Letters of Recommendation from a non-family member are required.
Hillrise Elementary PTO Scholarship – This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior of an Elkhorn Public High School who attended Hillrise Elementary for a minimum of three years and exemplifies academic success, good citizenship and active involvement in community and school activities.
J.D. Heiskell & Co. Agriculture Scholarship – This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from an Elkhorn Public High School who is actively involved in school and community activities and plans on attending an accredited trade school or college majoring in the field of Agriculture, Natural Resource Science or Veterinary Medicine. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Two letters of recommendation from a high school teacher or coach are required.
Judith Petersen Family Memorial Scholarship – The Judith Petersen Memorial Scholarship is awarded in memory of Judith Petersen who was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who dedicated 25 years working in the field of nursing. This $250 scholarship will be awarded to two Elkhorn High School students who plan to pursue a career in the health or medical profession. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.75.
Kayla Wilkins Memorial Scholarship – This $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from an Elkhorn Public School who best exemplifies the spirit, lifestyle and compassion of Kayla Wilkins as demonstrated by the scholarship applicant’s Christian, drug-free and alcohol-free lifestyle. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Two letters of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, administrator or pastor are required.
Kids Campus Employee Scholarship – This $500 scholarship will be awarded to two graduating seniors (one from Elkhorn High School and one from Elkhorn South High School) who are current Kids Campus employees who have demonstrated a caring, fun-loving attitude while working with the Kids Campus students. Applicants must be current Kids Campus employees who have a cumulative employment term of six months or more with Kids Campus.
Kids Campus Former Student Scholarship – This $500 scholarship will be awarded to two graduating seniors (one from Elkhorn High School and one from Elkhorn South High School) who attended Kids Campus in Elementary School and have demonstrated strong academic performance, successful leadership capabilities and active involvement in community and school activities. Applicants must have attended Kids Campus for at least two grades in elementary school.
Lamski Family Young Women’s STEM Scholarship – This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a female graduating senior from Elkhorn High School who plans to major in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) field of study. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.5.
Legacy Eyecare Scholarship – This $500 scholarship will be awarded to four graduating seniors (two from Elkhorn High School and two from Elkhorn South High School) who are goal oriented as demonstrated by their success in high school and have plans to further their education in a scientific or medical field of study.
Liz Dolph Memorial Scholarship – This $500 scholarship honors Liz Dolph, a Westridge Elementary School teacher who inspired her students and loved education, art and music. The Liz Dolph Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from an Elkhorn Public High School who attended Westridge Elementary School and shares a love of art and/or music with Mrs. Dolph.
Manchester Elementary PTO Scholarship – This $500 scholarship will be awarded to two graduating seniors of an Elkhorn Public High School who graduated fifth grade from Manchester Elementary School and exemplifies academic success, good citizenship and involvement in community and school activities.
Nate Pullen Memorial Scholarship – This $1,000 scholarship honors Nate’s enthusiasm and passion for life. The scholarship will be awarded to two graduating student athletes from an Elkhorn Public School who have demonstrated good character, leadership potential and are admired and highly respected by teammates both on and off the field. One letter of recommendation from an Elkhorn Public High School coach is required.
Nathan Waggoner Memorial Scholarship – This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an Elkhorn High School graduating senior who best exemplifies Nate’s compassion and zest for life. Applicants must have demonstrated leadership potential and good character throughout their high school career and be admired by teachers and students at school, school functions, and leisure time. One letter of recommendation from an Elkhorn High School teacher is required.
Nick Alfrey Memorial Scholarship – This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from Elkhorn High School in honor of Nick’s zest and passion of life. Scholarship applicants must demonstrate a Christian, drug-free and alcohol-free lifestyle. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Two letters of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, administrator or pastor are required.
pARTners Scholarship – This $500 scholarship will be awarded to one male and one female graduating senior from Elkhorn High School who has participated in at least one of the pARTners supported programs (drama, speech or vocal music) for a minimum of three years at Elkhorn High School. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. One letter of recommendation from a teacher, employer, coach or pastor is required. The recommender must be a non-family member outside of the vocal/speech/drama department.
Powers Automotive Technical Career Scholarship – This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from an Elkhorn Public High School who plans on majoring in Skilled & Technical Sciences at a two-year, four-year, trade or technical educational institution. Examples of applicable fields of study include Construction Sciences, Manufacturing, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), and Transportation, Distribution & Logistics (includes Automotive fields of study).
Real World Initiative Scholarship – This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from an Elkhorn Public High School who has plans to attend a vocational or technical school (includes community college).
Rick Christmas Memorial Scholarship – This $750 scholarship honors Rick Christmas’s passion as a baseball player, as well as his love of the sport. The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior on the boys Elkhorn High School baseball team who combines his love of baseball with good character. Applicants must be current members of the Elkhorn High School boys’ baseball team and must have participated on the team for a minimum of two years.
Secondhand Support, Inc. Scholarship – This $500 scholarship will be awarded to two seniors (one from Elkhorn High School and one from Elkhorn South High School) who have taken a minimum of three AP classes, maintained a minimum GPA of 3.75, and have demonstrated a willingness to challenge themselves academically while maintaining a well-balanced non-academic schedule. Two letters of recommendation from a teacher, coach or community organization leader are required.
Skylar Elizabeth Hunter Memorial Scholarship – The Skylar Elizabeth Hunter Memorial Scholarship is awarded in memory of Skylar who was a kind and compassionate girl who was involved in many activities including volleyball, basketball, chorus, and band. This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student who is helpful and empathetic towards others and is actively involved in school activities and in the community. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. One letter of recommendation from a teacher, employer, coach or pastor (non-family member) is required.
Skyline Elementary PTO Scholarship – This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior of an Elkhorn Public High School who graduated fifth grade from Skyline Elementary and exemplifies academic success, good citizenship and involvement in community and school activities.
Spring Ridge Elementary PTO Scholarship – This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior of an Elkhorn Public High School who graduated fifth grade from Spring Ridge Elementary and exemplifies academic success, good citizenship and involvement in community and school activities.
Tom Roach Memorial Scholarship – This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded in memory of Tom Roach, a dedicated father & husband who was a former athlete, coach, and business entrepreneur. Tom is remembered for his love of life and compassion towards others. One scholarship will be awarded to a student athlete graduating from an Elkhorn Public School who is a well-rounded student and has demonstrated strong character, compassion, and humility. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.8. One letter of recommendation from an Elkhorn Public High School teacher or coach is required.
Vic Porter Memorial Scholarship – This $1,000 scholarship honors Coach Porter’s passion and leadership as a basketball coach, as well as the dedication and work ethic he inspired in his players. The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior on the boys Elkhorn High School basketball team who combines his love of basketball with good character. Applicants must be current members of the Elkhorn High School boys’ basketball team and must have participated on the team for a minimum of two years.
West Dodge Station Elementary PTO Scholarship – This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior who lives within the boundaries of West Dodge Station Elementary and exemplifies academic success, good citizenship and involvement in community and school activities.
Western Douglas County Rotary Scholarship – The Western Douglas County Rotary will award a $1,500 scholarship to two graduating seniors (one from Elkhorn High School and one from Elkhorn South High School) who best exemplify the ideals of Rotary International which includes “Service Above Self.” The Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build peace in the world. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Scholarship finalists will be interviewed by Rotary members at their high school.
Westridge Elementary PTO Scholarship – This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior who attended Westridge Elementary for a minimum of three years and exemplifies academic success, good citizenship and involvement in community and school activities.
William Patton Science Scholarship – This $1,000 scholarship will recognize an Elkhorn High School graduating senior who has successfully completed a minimum of eight semesters of science and plans to continue his/her education in a scientific field of study. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Wortman/Bacus Commitment to Excellence Scholarship – Selected By Coaching Staff/No Application -The Antler Football Boosters will award two $1,250 scholarships to two Elkhorn High School graduating seniors on the Elkhorn High School football team who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence both on and off the field. This scholarship is selected by the Elkhorn High School coaching staff and will be presented at the fall football banquet.
