Scholarships Available

Arby's Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a senior who has been or is currently employed, in good standing, by Arby's Elkhorn. The value of the scholarship varies each year and will be awarded the second semester of the recipient's freshman collegiate year.

AXA Scholarship

Provides a scholarship which recognizes an ambitious, goal-oriented student for their school and community accomplishments. The applicant must show respect for self and community, as demonstrated in their ability to maintain a drug-free and alcohol-free lifestyle. Students must plan to attend an accredited 4-year college or university, rank in the top 20% of their class. The scholarship amount may vary each year.

Barbara McLaughlin Memorial

Honors the positive spirit and active involvement of Mrs. McLaughlin. Student applicants must plan to attend a college or university in Nebraska. The applicant must have a GPA of 3.0 or greater, display positive participation in school or community activities and provide an indication of financial need. This scholarship is valued at $4,000 ($1,000 per year for four years).

Carl L. White Scholarship

Provides a $1000 scholarship to a student who plans to attend a four-year college or university, majoring in a scientific field. The student must have maintained a 3.0 or greater GPA, and must have completed 8 semesters of high school science with preference given to an emphasis in physics.

Carol S. Schlosser Memorial Scholarship

Honors of the life of Mrs. Schlosser. The award recipient shall demonstrate strong academic performance, activities involvement and an indication of financial need. This scholarship is valued at $8,000 ($2,000 per year for 4 years).

Class of '61 -- Echtencamp/Warren/Paasch-Wilkins Memorial

Awarded to a senior who plans to major in one of the construction sciences at a trade or technical school or a four-year college. The value of the scholarship is $1,200.

Don Nordlund Memorial Scholarship

Recognizes a Skyline Elementary graduate who has demonstrated leadership, and sensitivity to others. Three years attendance at Skyline is a minimum. Grade point average and class rank, although important, are not primary considerations. This scholarship is valued at $1000 ($250 a year for four years).

Don Petersen Family Scholarship

Recognizes two graduates of Hillrise Elementary who exemplify good citizenship through active involvement in school and community, and academic achievement with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Each scholarship is valued at $250.

Elkhorn Middle School Booster Club Scholarship

A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student who attended and graduated from EMS. Applicants must exemplify solid academic performance, be actively involved in community and school activities, and currently live in the Elkhorn School District. Students must plan to attend either a two or four-year accredited school.

Elkhorn Ridge Middle School Booster Club Scholarship

Awards a $500 scholarship to one male and one female student who attended and graduated from ERMS. Applicants must exemplify solid academic performance, be actively involved in community and school activities, and currently live in the Elkhorn School District. Students must plan to attend either a two or four-year accredited school.

Elkhorn Public Schools Foundation Scholarship

Provides $2,000 to students with plans to attend an accredited 4-year college or university. Applicant must have attended Elkhorn Public Schools for at least four years, maintained a minimum 3.25 GPA and demonstrated active involvement in high school and community activities, good character and leadership potential.

Elkhorn Public Schools Foundation Arts Scholarship

Provides a $1,000 scholarship to the student who best exemplifies a talent and passion for art. To qualify, the applicant must attend a college, 2-year trade school or university with plans to major in the field of art and must have completed their high school art portfolio.

Elkhorn Public Schools Foundation Girls Athletics/Sportsmanship Scholarship

Provides a $1,000 scholarship to a female student with plans to attend a four-year college or university. The student must have demonstrated leadership potential and good character throughout their high school career. The applicant must be a student athlete who is admired and highly respected by teammates both on and off the field. To qualify, the student athlete must have participated in high school sports for at least 2 years and must include a letter of recommendation from an Elkhorn High School coach.

Elkhorn Public Schools Foundation Kids Campus Scholarship

Provides two $500 scholarships to two students with plans to attend a trade school, college or university. One $500 scholarship will be awarded to a Kids Campus employee in good
standing who has worked at Kids Campus a minimum of 4 months and has demonstrated a caring, funloving attitude with children. The second scholarship will be awarded to a
graduating senior who attended Kids Campus for at least one year in elementary school.

Elkhorn Historical Society Scholarship

Recognizes a student of an Elkhorn family who has been active in our community for many years. The applicant must have attended kindergarten through high school (13 years) in the Elkhorn Public Schools system. The value of this scholarship is $1,000.

Elkhorn Volunteer Rescue Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to applicant(s) with plans to pursue a career in fire fighting, emergency medicine or other health/medical-related professions. The amount of the scholarship will vary based on the applicant's field of study in an accredited program; the minimum award amount will be $1000 - $5000, with the possibility of annual renewal amounts based on the length of the program and the applicant's demonstrated progress towards program completion. The applicant must also demonstrate active involvement in high school and community activities, good character and leadership potential.

Elkhorn/Waterloo Area American Legion Post #211

Provides one $4,000 scholarship, distributed at $1,000 per year for four years, to a student who has maintained a GPA of 3.0 or greater and is planning on attending a four year college or university. The applicant must exemplify a patriotic spirit; this will be demonstrated through a written essay on patriotism.

Dr. Harriet Bluford Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship honors the Dr. Bluford's life-long passion for educatio and will be awarded to a graduate of Elkhorn who plans to attend a 4-year accredited college or university and major in the field of education. The applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or greater, and display positive participation in school and/or community activities. The value of this scholarshp is $500.

James Manske/Alex Pearson Elkhorn Lawn Care LLC Business Entrepreneur Scholarship

Provides $500 to a student with plans to attend an accredited 2-year or 4-year college or university. The applicant must have maintained a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 and have plans to major in business or an entrepreneurship program of study. The applicant must demonstrate active involvement in high school and community activities, good character and leadership potential.

J.D. Heiskell & Co. Agriculture Scholarship

Awards a $500 scholarship to a student planning to major in Agriculture, Natural Resource Science, orVeterinary Medicine at an accredited trade school or college. Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be involved in school and community activities.

Kayla Wilkins Memorial Scholarship

Provides a $2000 scholarship to the student who best exemplifies the spirit, lifestyle and compassion of Kayla. To qualify, the student must have plans to attend a 4-year college or university, compose an essay, provide two letters of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, administrator or pastor and have their parent/guardian sign the application, attesting to the applicant's Christian, drug-free and alcohol-free lifestyle. The student must also have maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Larry DeBaere Scholarship

Honors a student who best exemplifies Mr. DeBaere's focus on developing good character. This $750 scholarship will be awarded on the basis of a written application and the following selection criteria: 1) an accumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater, 2) use of the scholarship to attend a college, trade school or university, 3) attended Skyline Elementary for a minimum of 4 years, 4) actively involved in extra-curricular and community service activities, 5) demonstrated good character and leadership potential, and 6) a written essay of 250 words or less describing a memorable experience at Skyline elementary, and the impact of that experience on the student's life.

Legacy Eyecare Scholarship

Provides a $1000 scholarship ($500 per year for 2 years) to a graduating senior with plans to pursue a career in the medical or science fields. The applicant must have plans to attend a 4 year college or university and have a demonstrated financial need. The applicant must also be goal-oriented, as demonstrated by their successes during their high school career at Elkhorn.

Nate Pullen Memorial Scholarship

Honors Nate's enthusiasm and passion for life. Student applicants must plan to attend a four-year college or university, and have demonstrated leadership potential and good character throughout their high school career. The applicant must be a student athlete who is admired and highly respected by teammates both on and off the field. To qualify, the student athlete must include a letter of recommendation from an Elkhorn High School coach. This scholarship is valued at $1,000 ($500 per year for two years).

Nick Alfrey Scholarship

Honors Nick's zest and passion for life. Student applicants must plan to attend a four-year college or university, compose an essay, provide two letters of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, administator or pastor, and have their parent/guardian sign the application, attesting to the applicant's Christian, drug-free and alcohol-free lifestyle. The student must also have maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA. The scholarship is valued at $1,000 ($500 per year for two years).

PTO Scholarship: Fire Ridge

Recognizes active school and community involvement, academic success, and good citizenship. The applicant must exemplify the goals and teachings of the elementary school community as determined by the Fire Ridge PTO Scholarship Selection Committee. The applicant must live within the boundaries of Fire Ridge Elementary and have lived in the Elkhorn School District for at least four years.

PTO Scholarship: Hillrise

Recognizes active school and community involvement, academic success, and good citizenship. The applicant must exemplify the goals and teachings of the elementary school community as determined by the Hillrise PTO Scholarship Selection Committee. The applicant must currently live in the Elkhorn School District and have attended Hillrise Elementary for at least three years.

PTO Scholarship: Manchester

The Manchester PTO scholarship recognizes active school and community involvement, academic success, and good citizenship. The applicant must exemplify the goals and teachings of the elementary school community as determined by the Manchester PTO Scholarship Selection Committee. The applicant must live north of Dodge Street and have lived in the Elkhorn School District for at least four years.

PTO Scholarship: Skyline

Recognizes active school and community involvement, academic success, and good citizenship. The applicant must exemplify the goals and teachings of the elementary school community as determined by the Skyline PTO Scholarship Selection Committee. The applicant must currently live in the Elkhorn School District and have attended Skyline Elementary for at least three years.

PTO Scholarship: Spring Ridge

Recognizes active school and community involvement, academic success, and good citizenship. The applicant must exemplify the goals and teachings of the elementary school community as determined by the Spring Ridge PTO Scholarship Selection Committee. The applicant must currently live in the Elkhorn School District and have attended Spring Ridge Elementary for at least one year.

PTO Scholarship: Westridge

Recognizes active school and community involvement, academic success, and good citizenship. The applicant must exemplify the goals and teachings of the elementary school community as determined by the Westridge PTO Scholarship Selection Committee. The applicant must currently live in the Elkhorn School District and have attended Westridge Elementary for at least three years.

Real World Initiative Scholarship

Provides an award for a student who has plans to attend a vocational or technical school. A minor emphasis is placed on grades but improvement shown throughout his/her high school career is a focus. Financial need is also a primary consideration. The value of this award is $500.

Richard Barry Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship honors Mr. Barry's positive contributions and active involvement in the Elkhorn community. Student applicants must plan to attend a 2- or 4-year accredited college or university, with plans to major in a business-related field. Majors to be considered include marketing, merchandising, business and business management. The applicant must be a positive representative of Elkhorn High School; this scholarship is valued at $500.

Vic Porter Memorial Boys Basketball Scholarship

Honors Coach Porter's passion and leadership as a coach, as well as the dedication and work ethic he inspired in his players. This scholarship will be awarded to a student athlete who combines the love of basketball with good character. To be eligible, the applicant must be a senior member of the Elkhorn High School boys' basketball team, with a minimum of two years participation in high school basketball. The student must complete an essay, and enroll at an accredited, Pell-eligible educational institution offering courses toward a degree or certificate in vocational or technical training. This scholarship is valued at $1000. An Elkhorn High School faculty member must attest to their knowledge of the applicant's good character.

William Patton Science Scholarship

Recognizes a student who has successfully completed a minimum of eight semesters of science and has maintained at least a 3.0 grade point average. The applicant must have plans to attend a 4 year college or university; the value of this scholarship is $1000 ($500 a year for 2 years).

Carl Riley Brodersen Football and Baseball Awards

Remember Carl's love of the game. The recipient for each sport scholarship is selected by vote of the varsity players. The chosen athlete is to be the "most admired athlete both on and off the field." Each award is valued at $10,000 ($2,500 per year for 4 years). The student must use the award within a 6-year period.

In honor of Carl's love of sports. The recipient of this scholarship is selected by a vote of the varsity softball players. The chosen athlete is to be the "most admired athlete both on and off the field." This scholarship is valued at $10,000 ($2500 per year for 4 years). The student must use the award within a 6-year period and attend a 4-year accredited college.
